GREGORY BATTLE, Ph.D.

Department of Mathematics

Associate Professor

Education:
B.S., Morehouse College, 1977
Masters Degree, Washington University, 1984
Ph.D, Washington University in St. Louis, 1995
Ph.D Thesis: "Characterizations of Commutative and Noncommutative Moore-Penrose Rings"

Courses Taught:

Differential Geometry(MATH 480)

Abstract Algebra II(MATH 372)

Analysis I(MATH 251)

Research Interests:

Performed numerical estimation of surface mine hits and kills. Studied geophysical concepts such as gravity, the gravitational potential, the geoid, and the vertical gradient of gravity. Researched various experiments to measure the exact value of the Newtonian gravitational constant.Surveyed various computational models for analyzing atmospheric variables, including fast fourier transforms, gaussian quadrature, expansion of data estimatiors using legendre polynomials.Manage, control and prepare cost estimates on Army weapon materiel systems, acquisition plans, operational plans to quantify costs and benefits of alternative decision actions. Perform research using software cost estimating tools and statistical analysis to update and improve cost models. Performed numerical analysis in methodology of downward continuation of gravity anomalies, programmed statistical regression on sparse gravity data to create a dense field of interpolative points, production of gravity anomaly covariance for comparison to various models, calculation of near misses for missile trajectories at global strategic points, verified geodetic techniques and analyzed problems in mathematical geodesy.
